Software Defined Networking

It saves time and eliminates human errors that can occur in your organization’s network configuration, through an SDN architecture that automates IT system processes.

What is SDN (Software Defined Networking)

If it takes a long time for new equipment to be set up in your company, this may be due to the network architecture.

Traditional network architecture involves the individual configuration of each piece of equipment. Each router, switch or firewall must be configured via commands or a graphical interface. When the number of equipment items increases, any necessary changes in the infrastructure involve a large workload, and errors can occur in the configuration process.

Part of the problem can be solved with the aid of software automating some of the commands. But even this process is limited by the operating system of the equipment, the commands that can be automated and the possibility of human error.

Therefore, the best solution is the Software Defined Networking (SDN) architecture, which completely changes the way communications work.

The advantages of SDN architecture

Using SDN, the transfer is made from individually configuring infrastructure to central intelligence. It controls the entire communications environment, which becomes a whole, called Fabric.

The central intelligence communicates to the equipment what the final result of the Fabric should be, and they configure themselves to do what was asked of them.

For example, using Cisco ACI, Cisco’s SDN solution, Magnetic IT Services built the first Data Center with this technology in Romania. The Data Center extends over two cities, and the chosen solution ensures complete redundancy for network services. This is the perfect option for a Disaster Recovery location to keep the company running in the event of a disaster.

What is Cisco ACI (Application Centric Infrastructure)

Cisco ACI is a highly secure, highly interoperable, open-source SDN solution that enhances business agility, automates IT tasks, and accelerates application deployment. The central point of the solution is called the Cisco Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC). Cisco APIC is actually a server cluster that centrally manages all communications, both hardware and software. It can set up the entire network in a matter of seconds.

In addition, unlike other infrastructure solutions, CISCO ACI focuses on the end result, on applications. It also integrates, in terms of the network, with virtualization vendors such as Vmware, Microsoft, Openstack, and Red Hat. This means that the entire provisioning and connectivity process for a new server or virtual machine can be automated in minutes.

Benefits:

  • Centralized and automatic management
  • Latency (data processing delays) of less than one microsecond
  • Network reconnection in less than one second
  • Real-time visibility of the entire infrastructure

  • Eliminates human errors that may occur
  • End-to-end hardware integrated security
  • Hypervisor integration
  • REST API integration
